Every guy has his thing.
The hobby he can talk about for hours.
The place he disappears to on Saturday morning.
The subject everyone knows not to get him started on unless they have plenty of time.
Some guys have a garage.
Some have a fishing spot.
Some have a guitar collection that apparently still needs “just one more.”
And some simply have a favorite chair, a strong cup of coffee and absolutely no interest in being bothered.
So the question is:
Which old guy are you?
The Garage Guy 🔧
If something breaks, you're already looking for the toolbox.
Buying a replacement?
Not yet.
First, you're going to take it apart, stare at it for a while, find three tools you probably don't need and explain why whoever designed it clearly had no idea what they were doing.
Your garage isn't messy.
It's organized according to a system nobody else understands.
And yes, you're keeping that box of random screws.
They might be useful someday.
The Fishing Guy 🎣
You don't need much.
A rod.
A quiet morning.
A little coffee.
And preferably nobody asking when you're coming home.
Catching something is nice, of course.
But after enough years, you realize fishing was never entirely about the fish.
Sometimes sitting beside the water for a few hours without checking the clock is the whole point.
And if you come home empty-handed?
The fish simply weren't cooperating.

The Guitar Guy 🎸
You already own a guitar.
Probably more than one.
But somehow that has never stopped you from looking at another one.
There's always a perfectly reasonable explanation.
Different tone.
Different pickups.
Different neck.
Different color.
Completely different guitar.
At least that's the argument.
And every once in a while, somebody asks why you need so many.
They wouldn't understand.
The Coffee Guy ☕
Talking before coffee is technically possible.
It's just not recommended.
You have a favorite mug.
You know exactly how you like your coffee.
And you've reached the point where standing quietly in the kitchen with a fresh cup counts as a legitimate morning activity.
No emails.
No questions.
No complicated decisions.
Just coffee.
Then we'll see what happens.
The Riding Guy 🏍️
You don't always need a destination.
Sometimes the road itself is enough.
Good weather, a little fuel and a few hours with nowhere particularly important to be.
Take the long way.
Avoid the highway.
Stop somewhere you've never stopped before.
Come home later than expected.
That's not getting lost.
That's having a better route.
The Professional Grumpy Guy 👴
Maybe none of those quite describe you.
Maybe your specialty is simply having opinions.
Strong ones.
About thermostats.
Traffic.
Tools.
Music.
How people park.
How much things cost now.
And why something that worked perfectly well for 30 years suddenly needed to be “updated.”
You're not actually angry.
You've just been around long enough to know there was probably an easier way to do it.
And you're more than happy to explain it.

So, Which One Are You?
Maybe you're the Garage Guy Monday through Friday and the Fishing Guy on Saturday.
Maybe you're the Guitar Guy after dinner and the Coffee Guy every morning before anyone is allowed to speak to you.
Or maybe you're a little bit of all of them.
That's the point.
Getting older doesn't mean losing your personality.
If anything, you finally have enough time to lean into it.
Fix things.
Catch fish.
Play guitar.
Take the long way.
Drink the coffee.
Have the opinion.
And wear the shirt that explains everything before you even say a word.
Which old guy are you?
Stay grumpy. Stay legendary.
